More Tucson

Here it is, the last little bits from Tucson. It actually covers two days, but since the scenery was only so interesting (didn't see it necessary to photograph a mall interior or the movie theater) I'm cramming it all into one last post.

From Downtown Tucson, this is the view of the University of Arizona. Memories...

Sara had plans to do a run through the downtown area with a loosely organized group of runners. They just show up at the railroad depot, register to get their ticket for a free glass of wine at participating restaurants and then run. I chose to walk...around on my own. You all know I'm only running if I'm being chased!

Hotel Congress...where we later had dinner.

The Historic Depot marker. A lot of history in this one place. From the Web site: The Historic Depot has been the site of many famous occurrences over the years. On the evening of March 20, 1882, Wyatt Earp and Doc Holiday shot the notorious outlaw Frank Stilwell near the Depot in revenge for the murder of Wyatt’s brother Morgan in the wake of the O.K. Corral gunfight. President William McKinley stepped onto the platform at the depot in 1900. Thirty-four years later, mobster John Dillinger and his gang were captured by the local police department and the gang was extradited back to Chicago by train, Dillinger by air. In 1959, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor arrived on the train to visit Tucson.

After wandering around the depot for awhile, Kim finally meandered her way down to me. She apparently has trouble traveling in Tucson...even though she's lived there for several years. (That's my only pot shot. I'm done! :)

While we waited for the runners to return to the depot, Kim and I went in search of an ATM and a mail box. On the way we came across the downtown bus stop. I've told people in the past that the Ronstadt family is a big deal in Tucson (like Linda and the rest of her people), but thought this might drive the point home. When I was in college, we had to interview one of the city councilmen for a writing contest...it was Councilman Ronstadt. Anyway, I saw the big bus stop and stopped to take a picture for any doubters.
Sadly, after this I put my camera away. I forgot to take pictures at dinner. I was going to get a picture with Kim - at least. But I forgot. I must have been giddy with my free glass of wine...yep, the waiter was very kind to the two non-runners and gave us a free glass of the good stuff too.
The next day - my last day in Tucson - Sara and I spent the late morning/early afternoon at a movie. We saw "Up!" I recommend. It was cute. We had lunch at her house with Manny and chilled out until Jason and Nathan came over for dinner!
It seems Jason and Sara only get the families together when I come to visit. That's sweet to know they make that effort when I come to town...silly though...they almost live around the corner from each other! They made a promise to each other that they were going to get together before I came back for my next visit in a year, if for no other reason than to have to hear me mock them! We'll see.

Anyway, back to the evening. When Jason and Nathan first arrived, Nathan stood outside the door almost refusing to come in. He didn't recognize any of us and he just wanted to hang out with Daddy. (His face said it all...why are we here and why aren't we leaving?) We coaxed him inside with promises that he could play with Manny and all of his toys. With a little help from Daddy, the boys were soon chillin at Manny's table.

And soon after that, Nathan was a blur in Manny's room.

Checking out the gear.

Yes, Manny played too.

Daddy, Daddy, Daddy! I want to show you something. Everybody having fun.

Later, after we had dinner, Manny and Nathan made use of the living room tunnel. Here, Nathan makes his way through.

Outside the tunnel, Nathan wanted to drive Daddy around. But before you can drive, you've got to put the seat belt on him!

Back in the tunnel, I didn't peek in, I just put the camera down into the tunnel where Nathan was traveling and we all laughed when he screamed, "CHEESE!" Glad he had fun after all...I was a little worried with his initial trepidation. :)
